Welcome!
The US Foundation for Radio Science, Inc., (USFRS) was established in August 2025 with the mission of supporting US engineers and scientists as they advance the state of the art in a wide range of areas relating to applied electromagnetics, from radio astronomy, to wireless communications, radio frequency devices, antennas, propagation and remote sensing, and biomedical applications. We do this primarily through the sponsorship of the Radio Science Meeting (NRSM) which has been held annually in Boulder, CO, since 1973.
The USFRS Board of Directors coordinates its effort with the US National Committee for the International Union of Radio Science (USNC-URSI). The USNC-URSI is charged with planning and conducting the NRSMs and other co-sponsored conferences such as the Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S) summer symposia. In addition, USFRS works closely with URSI leadership to support US members of the URSI Board as well as officers of the 10 URSI Commissions.
One of the primary activities of USFRS is to support the development of the next generation of scientists and engineers in the US, focusing on all aspects of Radio Science. To that end, our largest effort is the support of students in US universities to attend the annual NRSMs, as well as the Student Paper Competition (SPC) at each NRSM and the three URSI Flagship meetings, the GASS, AT-RASC and AP-RASC.
We welcome all financial and volunteer support for USFRS activities! If you would like to learn more on ways that you can support our mission, please contact Michael Newkirk, USFRS President, at mhnewkirk@ieee.org.
